C.R.Warner

I am a surreal portrait artist working primarily in watercolors. My work explores feminine themes and the concept of otherness. I find myself inspired by the inherent understanding between women and the numerous ways strength manifests itself within them. In my life I have experienced a feeling of otherness that I have learned to embrace in my work. Motifs like halved heads or gold flowing from inside the subjects are common surrealistic elements I use to express or convey these themes.

During my formative years, I found community in online spaces. I discovered others using surreal means to express themselves in a rapidly evolving world. With community came confidence to do the same, and my paintings began to reflect that assuredness. Society often tries to place us into tidy boxes when we are wild souls, and it is my hope that viewers of my work will learn to celebrate any perceived strangeness or otherness within themselves in lieu of shying away from it.

With my artistic practice, I aim to make the bizarre beautiful, and in turn help others find strength and power within their otherness
